Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Physics

The Departments of Physics/Astronomy and Chemistry at the Virginia Military Institute invite applications for a full-time interdisciplinary assistant professor position in materials science, beginning in August 2008. A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related field is required. Applications from candidates with experience in the synthesis, characterization, and application of organic materials to thin film devices are strongly encouraged but all areas of interdisciplinary expertise will be considered. Teaching responsibilities include general courses in chemistry and physics, advanced courses in one’s specialty, and direction of undergraduate research. The position is a joint initiative of the Chemistry and Physics/Astronomy Departments and focuses on undergraduate research as a model for student learning. Both departments have a wide range of modern instrumentation, and together have seventeen full-time faculty.

VMI is a state-supported, coeducational, national, liberal arts college of 1300 students with a strong commitment to produce educated, responsible citizens. VMI faculty and students wear military uniforms, but no prior military experience is required.
